How this calculator works · Formula and brewing guidance

Formula: Dry leaf grams = (water in mL ÷ 100) × selected grams per 100 mL × strength multiplier. The water-to-tea ratio is expressed as milliliters of water per 1 gram of dry tea, not a mass-to-mass lab measurement.

The starting western ratio is approximately 1.35 g per 100 mL (2.7 g per 200 mL), based on UK Tea Academy guidance. Tea-specific small adjustments and gongfu/cold-brew ratios are editorial starting presets, not official universal standards. Package guidance takes priority.

Temperature and steeping recommendations are starting points informed by the UK Tea Academy, the UK Tea & Infusions Association and established tea producers. Gongfu infusions reuse the same leaves, not fresh leaves for every steep. A teaspoon is not a precise gram measurement because different leaves have different shapes and densities.

Volume: 1 US fl oz = 29.5735 mL; 1 US cup = 236.588 mL. Cost estimate uses the exact calculated dry leaf amount and your entered price per 100 g. Water volume is the input liquid amount; this tool does not estimate leaf absorption or final beverage yield.

Brewing note: These values are suggested starting recipes, not a guarantee of an ideal flavor. Use a scale for accurate leaf measurement. Avoid leaving prepared cold brew at room temperature for extended periods, and follow food-safe handling practices. TeaTurbo.com
